Virtual talents in Malaysia will get to audition for Prism Project

“VTubers are humans, too.”

That is the underlying theme of Tokyo-based virtual talent management agency, Prism Project, as it opens auditions in 20 nations, including Malaysia, in a bid to develop and produce virtual talents on a global scale.

Prism Project, a member of Sony Music Entertainment (Japan), started accepting applications for its general audition 2022 for both female-, and male-presenting characters.

In a statement to Twentytwo13, Sony Music Entertainment (Japan) said Prism Project will push the boundaries of the virtual talent space by providing growth and development opportunities unrivalled in the industry today.

“Sony Music Entertainment (Japan) Inc. has made it their business goal to discover talents, nurture them, and help develop that unique creative spark that enables them to bring joy and excitement to millions of fans worldwide,” the statement read.

“With the message that ‘VTubers Are Human, Too’, Prism Project acknowledges that VTubers are a character, a talent, but at the same time, a talented human being.

“They intend to promote the message that VTubers are also human and need the opportunity to learn and grow, and understand that they require a proper balance of work and private time to ensure that physical and mental health is maintained.”

A VTuber is a virtual YouTuber who is an online entertainer that uses a virtual avatar. While the VTubing culture in Malaysia is still in its infancy, there are some 100-odd VTubers in the country. There are also local VTuber agencies.

Besides Malaysia, those from the United States, Japan, Canada, Mexico, the United Kingdom, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Australia, New Zealand, Brazil, Peru, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Macao, the Republic of Korea, Thailand, and Singapore, can also apply.

Prism Project aims to share the moments a professional talent experiences on their journey, as well as help guide them through all the ups and downs along the way as each talent pursues their own careers and personal goals.

The deadline for applications is Sept 9. Applicants must be 18 and above and able to conduct their streaming content primarily in English. If selected, applicants must be able to commit to conducting virtual talent activities for a minimum of one year, with an expected minimum of four ‘live’ streams per week.

Officially launched in January 2021, the agency has 12 active talents, with a strong, enthusiastic worldwide fan base. They include the characters in the main image (from left), Naki Kamizuki, Sara Nagare, and Non Anon.
