Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo says lessons from Deepavali should be a reminder for all, including those in government, that “whatever we do, it needs to be based on goodness”.
He also reiterated the government’s stance on strengthening three key pillars of the digital world – infrastructure, digital resilience, and talent development.
He said safeguarding personal data is a priority, with proactive measures implemented to ensure the security of personal information in Malaysia.
Speaking at the Madani Deepavali Open House in Kuala Lumpur today, Gobind also thanked Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim for his allocation to the Indian community in Budget 2025, announced on Oct 18.
“Deepavali is when light overcomes darkness, and good overcomes evil,” said Gobind.
“This meaningful message should be observed all the time. It is a reminder for all of us, as individuals, and also the government – that whatever we do, it needs to be based on goodness; and it should give hope to all of us.
“The socio-economic progress of Malaysians must move in tandem with the country’s digital development. To achieve this, the government remains committed to ensuring that no one is left behind in our efforts to make Malaysia a developed country.”
Gobind said this was reflected in Budget 2025, where provisions for health and education will benefit all Malaysians, including the Indian community.
“This is in addition to an allocation of RM130 million that will be provided specifically to implement various programmes, including the financing of Indian community businesses and the needs of Indian villages,” he said.
“I am very excited and proud to see how our community continues to uplift the name of the country.”
He cited the examples of national badminton player M. Thinaah and her doubles partner Pearly Tan, who are seventh in the latest ranking of the Badminton World Federation.
National squash player S. Sivasangari is ranked ninth in the world.
“Our young people from the Tamil National Type School continue to shine.
“SJKT Ladang Ebor, for example, won eight gold medals and two silver medals in the World Young Inventors Exhibition Competition (WYIE) 2024 and International Invention, Innovation, Technology Competition & Exhibition Malaysia (ITEX’24) held last May,” said Gobind.
The open house was attended by Anwar, his deputy Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, and several Cabinet ministers, including Transport Minister Anthony Loke and Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil.
