Malaysians love food. So is it any wonder we have many mobile applications to find the best restaurants?
Now comes a new application which not only promises good food but at great prices too.
Called makan@RM5, it is an initiative by Human Life Advancement Foundation (HLAF), Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology, University Malaya (UM) and Multimedia Synergy Corporation (MMSC) Ventures.
Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, who is HLAF chairman, said the application will be most helpful to students, the lower-income group, and first-time workers to get affordable, healthy meals within a limited budget. It comes with the usual directory and guide to the best places for food and has rewards for members too.
“The app promises to get you meals for RM5 or less to help keep your wallet healthy while also supporting new food entrepreneurs,” said Dr Mahathir, who spoke via a video conference at the HLAF annual award and conference: Cities 4.0 and launch of the Malaysia Smart City Framework today.
Separately, Dr Mahathir praised Housing and Local Government Minister Zuraida Kamaruddin for the Malaysia Smart City Framework.
He said too many people in the industry worked in silos and therefore there was a need for a Smart City Framework to get them together.
“This comprehensive framework comprises all three tiers of government, as well as private sector participation to streamline and coordinate smart cities development in Malaysia,” said Dr Mahathir.
“This is also to ensure more informed guidelines and decision making by the Government which takes into consideration views from all the relevant stakeholders.”
He said the emphasis towards turning Malaysian cities into smart cities would be one of the highlights in the 12th Malaysia Plan.
“The government is fully supportive in laying the foundations to build smart cities as reflected in the government’s recent launching of the Kembara Digital Malaysia Programme under which Malaysians are set to enjoy high quality and affordable digital connectivity wherever they are,” he said.
“Leveraging on the National Fiberisation and Connectivity Plan, I aspire to see Smart Cities grow efficiently to become Smart Region.”
Selangor and Penang are two states to implement smart cities while Kota Kinabalu (Sabah), Kuching (Sarawak), Kuala Lumpur, Iskandar Johor and Kulim (Kedah) are the cities under development.
