KUALA LUMPUR: As Malaysia continues to welcome visitors under the Visit Malaysia 2026 campaign, Jaya Grocer is betting that one of the country’s strongest tourism assets is its food.
Malaysia recorded 17.5 million tourist arrivals as of May under the Visit Malaysia 2026 campaign.
However, Jaya Grocer’s partnership with Tourism Malaysia through Malaysian Delights represents a longer-term commitment to elevating Malaysian food culture and supporting homegrown brands.
Jaya Grocer head of marketing and communications, Gary Lim said the collaboration reflects a shared objective of positioning Malaysian food culture as a key pillar of the nation’s tourism identity while strengthening visibility and market access for local businesses.
“The main motivation behind this partnership is to elevate Malaysian food culture as a key pillar of the country’s tourism identity while also strengthening visibility and market access for homegrown brands,” said Lim.
He said the initiative was developed with Tourism Malaysia to create a meaningful food discovery touchpoint within the traveller journey, ensuring Malaysian flavours are not only experienced in traditional settings such as hawker centres and restaurants, but are also easily accessible at a key travel gateway where visitors can discover and bring home local products.
Launched recently at klia2, Malaysian Delights was designed as a curated cultural retail experience that introduces travellers to Malaysia’s culinary landscape through a carefully selected range of snacks, ready-to-eat products and local favourites.
The showcase features more than 120 stock-keeping units from over 10 Malaysian brands, providing a platform to highlight the diversity of Malaysian cuisine and the stories behind the products.
For arriving travellers, the concept serves as an accessible introduction to local flavours. For departing visitors, it offers a final opportunity to bring home a taste of Malaysia.
Lim said the concept also reflects how food can function as a form of everyday cultural exchange.
By extending culinary discovery beyond traditional tourism spaces into a travel retail environment, Malaysian Delights allows travellers to discover, purchase and share Malaysian flavours as souvenirs or gifts, while creating greater visibility for local brands and their stories.
“In terms of continuity, Malaysian Delights is not a short-term campaign. While it was introduced in support of Visit Malaysia 2026, it has been developed as a long-term concept within the Jaya Grocer ecosystem, with expansion already underway beyond klia2 into selected stores,” he said.
The concept is already available at selected Jaya Grocer outlets, including Sunway Pyramid and LaLaport, with plans to expand to additional stores nationwide.
This broader rollout reflects Jaya Grocer’s ambition to make Malaysian Delights a permanent feature within its retail network rather than a limited-time activation.
“Looking ahead, we see continued opportunities to build on this platform through major international events such as the 2027 SEA Games. We remain open to future collaborations with Tourism Malaysia and relevant ministries to further showcase Malaysian flavours, strengthen local brands and enhance Malaysia’s positioning as a vibrant food and tourism destination,” he added.
In many ways, the partnership also reflects how food can serve as a cultural ambassador for Malaysia.
“Food is one of the most authentic ways to experience a country, and Malaysia in particular is defined by its diverse flavours.
“Through Malaysian Delights, we are focusing on everyday favourites such as local snacks and Malaysian flavours that both locals and visitors already love. This makes the experience approachable and distinctly Malaysian.”
Lim said Malaysian favourites continue to perform strongly across Jaya Grocer stores, reflecting consumers’ appreciation for familiar local flavours.
While preferences may vary by outlet and season, locally made snacks continue to resonate across different age groups.
