The party mode was on, perfect to kickstart the holiday mood ahead of Christmas and New Year’s eve.
But the main agenda at Six in The City last Thursday was to celebrate Rantau Golin turning 30.
The Petaling Jaya-based public relations agency has been around since 1992, having served some of the biggest names in the world.
It survived the economic recession in Malaysia in the late 90s, and the deadly Covid-19 pandemic that crippled many throughout 2020 and 2021.
The company is now eager to champion Environmental, Social and Governance principles, moving forward.
The resilience of Rantau Golin is admirable, given how the public relations landscape has evolved over the decades, for better or for worse.
It has picked up numerous awards over the years, including at the recent Malaysia PR Awards 2022 – wining the Gold Award for the Best PR-led Integrated Campaign for the launch of Measat 3-D.
This, however, is not about the name of the brand. It’s about the people behind the agency.
Rantau Golin founder, Janitha Sukumaran took to the stage to thank the 100-odd guests from various industries, including representatives from Measat Satellite Systems and Gentari.
Having started her career as a journalist with national news agency Bernama, Janitha singled out her compatriots who have been with the company through thick and thin. They included chief executive officer Gogulan Dorairajoo, head of digital and mobility Dipak Madhavan, Julia Nicholas, who is tasked with looking at strategy and new initiatives, and content strategist Joanne Goh.
Janitha and her crew also honoured those who had served the company in the past, through a video montage, accompanied by the familiar infectious beat of ‘Jump Around’ by House of Pain. The former staff who attended the event were also called up on stage for a group picture.
Despite charting their own journeys, the former colleagues remain part of the Rantau Golin family. That’s pure love.
Turning 30 is no easy feat. But Rantau Golin did it.
And now they hope to evolve and continue to make a difference for another 30 years.
