National Under-19 coach Bojan Hodak is unperturbed over the FA of Malaysia’s (FAM) decision not to renew his contract come July 31, adding he has enjoyed his two-year stint with the team.
A cool and composed Hodak confirmed he received an email from the national body “several days” ago pertaining to the matter.
“The email stated that FAM will not renew my contract after July 31. It didn’t state why. It’s best you ask them (FAM),” said the Croatian.
“No I don’t have any plans yet. I would like to take a short holiday with my family.”
Hodak described his journey as “fantastic with excellent results”. He said his best achievement with the team was winning the Asean Football Federation Under-19 tournament last year. The Malaysian juniors edged Myanmar 4-3 in the final.
He is scheduled to leave for Croatia in two weeks for a UEFA Pro Licence refresher course.
Known for his no-nonsense approach and outbursts, Hodak is no stranger to the Malaysian football scene and has ruffled feathers along the way.
Some believe FAM is not extending Hodak’s contract because of his critical statements following his team’s poor performance at the Sanix Cup 2019 in Fukuoka, Japan in March. He reportedly highlighted Malaysia’s development system was lacking in some aspects which resulted in FAM issuing him a show-cause letter.
Since then, there had been murmurs that Hodak would be axed. There has also been talk of FAM wanting to trim its expenditure.
Hodak’s assistant Nenad Bacina and senior team assistant coach Aminuddin Hussin’s contracts were also not extended.
Hodak stressed he has no issues with FAM.
“I have no problems with anyone,” he added.
