The Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM), eager to move forward with the times, is looking at amending its constitution.
It is understood the OCM executive board had discussed limiting the term of its office bearers, among others.
However, there were differing views as to the number of terms for such limitation. Some said two terms were sufficient while others insisted it should be three.
There was also a handful who opposed the idea altogether, claiming “it takes years to build relationships with the national sports associations”.
Article 14.5 of OCM’s constitution says all office bearers shall hold office for four years and upon expiry of their term, may seek re-election.
The matter is still being deliberated as they hope to get the buy-in from all stakeholders.
The council is also expected to make public its effort in compiling the achievements of past and present national athletes on its website soon.
Work on the website has begun and is expected to be completed by the end of the year or the first quarter of 2021.
The initiative will finally address a long-standing problem of fans and observers seeking information on athletes, especially those who represented the nation in major multi-sporting events decades ago.
Till today, there is no central information system with complete records, personal best information and data of national athletes in the country.
Even the national sports bodies, including the FA of Malaysia (FAM), never took the initiative to record the achievements of their respective athletes and placing them in the public domain.
This became a talking point after FAM could not confirm a CNN report several months ago which placed the late Datuk Mokhtar Dahari as the third-highest goalscorer in the world with 86 goals.
As reported by Twentytwo13 in September, it was learnt that FAM is also taking steps to document the exploits of Malaysia’s former and current footballers.
