Political, policy stability continue to attract investors to Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR: The launch of a global development centre (GDC) by an international financial technology company showcases the stability Malaysia has to offer.

The matter was highlighted during yesterday’s Cabinet meeting after Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim earlier launched Ant International’s GDC at the Tun Razak Exchange.

Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil said this is the first time a financial technology company has established a global office in Malaysia.

“This proves that political stability and policy stability under the Madani Government have convinced investors, especially foreign investors, to choose Malaysia as their main investment destination,” Fahmi said during his press briefing this morning.

“The GDC is set to position the country as a global innovation hub, producing more digital talent and advancing the latest fintech, especially Agentic AI (artificial intelligence).”

Anwar, in his speech at yesterday’s launch, said Ant International’s decision to choose Malaysia as the home of its global operations centre reflects growing confidence in the country’s ability to host higher-value functions involving technology, innovation, AI and global service delivery.

This comes as Malaysia is completing the AI Governance Bill, which is set to complement existing frameworks, including the Cyber Security Act and other data protection regulations.

“Digital trust is the foundation of building a digital nation, and the 13th Malaysia Plan and the final phases of the Malaysia Digital Economy Blueprint emphasise this priority,” Anwar said.

The move is also in line with Malaysia’s aspiration to become an AI Nation by 2030.
