The Starhill seeks to satisfy shoppers’ hunger for authentic experiences

The opening of a major Taiwanese bookstore chain in The Starhill, Kuala Lumpur, has caught the attention of many.

However, it joins a long list of luxury brands and concept stores not found elsewhere in Malaysia, completing the transformation of The Starhill as a lifestyle destination.

Eslite Spectrum Co’s first flagship bookstore in Southeast Asia is among the tenants occupying 92 per cent of the retail space in the seven-storey mall.

The Starhill, located in the middle of Kuala Lumpur’s Golden Triangle, has a retail space covering 300,000 square feet.

“Our focus is to offer a holistic experience beyond retail and dining, encapsulated in an intimate space with a sense of familiarity, where patrons can escape the hustle and bustle of the city,” said YTL Land and Development Bhd vice-president, Joseph Yeoh.

“This reinforces The Starhill as the place to be in Bukit Bintang, especially with the unveiling of Eslite Spectrum, following its two-year journey in setting up this art and cultural destination.”

Yeoh said shoppers today are looking for authentic experiences that reinforce their sense of community and engagement.

The mall will also host a series of activities throughout the year.

“To serve our patrons’ demands, The Starhill welcomes opportunities for brands to partner with us to expand the slate of experiences that we can offer,” Yeoh added.

Eslite Spectrum is The Starhill’s anchor tenant, occupying the entire first level, covering 70,000 square feet. It opened its doors on Dec 17, welcoming some 50,000 shoppers.

Other brands there include Apollo Wellness Centre, Biologique Recherche, Ivan Young, Okaju, Opera Café, Audemars Piguet, Balmain, Paul & Shark, Philipp Plein and Tom Ford.

Several news stores, including 2XU and New Era, will open their doors in the first quarter of next year.
