Astro’s Ultra Plug & Play Box allows customers to watch its content at home, in the office, on holiday, or anywhere they choose.
As you do not need a satellite dish, it means you can carry your box to any location that has high-speed internet, plug it in, and play Astro’s content.
The minimum internet speed required for 4K UHD streaming via the new Ultra Plug & Play Box is 30Mbps, while HD streaming requires at least 10Mbps. Astro, however, recommends 100Mbps and above to truly enjoy the content.
The Ultra Plug & Play works like the AstroGo application that allows you to watch its content on the go, either on laptops or mobile phones.
The only difference is that now, you can watch it on television.
Astro Group chief executive officer Henry Tan said the company is constantly reinventing itself to cater to different segments of the market. He said this after Astro today unveiled its all-new experience, which allows customers to also stream Netflix on Astro TV.
In June, Astro launched sooka, a streaming service that offers free and paid content.
“For the young who are only concerned about ‘my own viewing interests’, they can subscribe to sooka as it is designed for individuals, while Astro is for families,” said Tan.
“A young person may say ‘the Astro packages have too many programmes that I do not want to watch’. With sooka, you can find the most suitable programmes for you.”
