RM5 million bursary initiative to support underprivileged students

G. Arvint, an intelligent young man, was raised in a family with limited financial resources. He knew that education was his way out to a better life.

He applied himself in school and recently completed a Foundation in Law at Brickfields Asia College, though he knew the road ahead would not be easy without financial support.

That was when a stroke of fortune came his way via a WhatsApp message. It seemed too good to be true at first, but after doing some research, he knew he had to try.

The message Arvint received informed him of an RM5 million bursary fund, generously allocated by HELP University to the Rotary Club of Kuala Lumpur DiRaja. The initiative aims to support students from underprivileged families who demonstrate academic potential and the drive to uplift their lives and communities.

“A few people, including some lecturers, sent me the message,” said Arvint (main image, fourth from left).

“I submitted my application and waited for two weeks, but there was no reply.”

Undeterred, Arvint submitted another application. This time, within two hours, he received a reply requesting his educational information.

Less than two weeks later, he received a phone call asking him to attend an interview.

“It wasn’t easy, as I knew many had applied for the bursary. Two weeks after my interview, I received another call telling me I would be the first recipient of the bursary,” said an emotional Arvint.

“I am now able to have my studies fully paid for, and I was so happy to meet the president and founder of HELP University when I attended the function.”

Arvint’s pursuit of a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree will be fully funded, covering RM90,000 in tuition fees over three years.

The launch of the Financial Assistance Initiative stands as a shining example of what is possible when education, compassion, and service come together. It marks the beginning of a powerful journey – one that will change the future, one student at a time.

Professor Datuk Dr Paul Chan, founder and president of HELP University, and his spouse, Datin Low Kam Yoke, attended the official launch of the bursary on May 7.

What is the HELP University–Rotary Club of Kuala Lumpur DiRaja Financial Assistance Initiative (Bursary)?

This fund is designed to support students from underprivileged families who demonstrate academic potential and the drive to uplift their lives and communities. However, for this specific bursary, only tuition fees are covered. Accommodation, books, and other living expenses are not included.

How do I apply?

The bursary supports young Malaysians who might otherwise be overlooked for traditional merit-based scholarships, giving them a chance to enrol in Diploma, Pre-University, or Undergraduate programmes at HELP University. For more information, click here.
